Willow Creek Permeable Aqua-Loc Pavers Enable Minnesota Tool-And-Die Company To Expand Facility

MRG Tool and Die in Faribault, MN, wanted to double the size of its manufacturing facility. But because the company sits within 1,000 feet of Faribault Lake, a reservoir on the scenic Cannon River, county zoning regulations required the company to reduce the amount of impermeable surfaces on its property.

The solution? Willow Creek Permeable Pavers.

J. D. Rynders Inc. of Prior Lake, MN, installed 20,000 square feet of Willow Creek Aqua-Loc Permeable Pavers on the company’s parking lot to meet the local zoning requirements. The alternative would have been to use permeable asphalt, but Gramse says that product wasn’t fully proven, so they chose permeable pavers instead. In addition, he says, the Aqua-Loc pavers are more attractive.

The company moved into the new facility in October 2009, and the parking lot was put to the test in September 2010. Up to 10 inches of rain fell on the site in a single day, but Gramse didn’t have to worry about flooding.

“There was no water sitting in that parking lot. It ran through like it was supposed to,” says MRG CEO Mike Gramse. “So far, it’s working out real good. It’s holding up well. We get a lot of nice compliments on it.”

In the event the company is faced with future expansion needs, he concludes, “I would use them again in order to make the best use of the property.”
